GAP Year Positions – Wesley College Bridgewater Camp

Residential Assistants – Portland

Wesley College Melbourne, a Uniting Church school with a rich tradition spanning 150 years, is a diverse, dynamic, coeducational learning community with more than 3,150 students aged between 3 and 18 years across three main campuses.

In addition to our city campuses, Wesley College offers a remarkable series of outdoor experiences for our students from years 3 – 10. We have camps based at Chum Creek (near Healesville), Mallana on the Gippsland Lakes and Lochend on the Bridgewater Lakes, 20km west of Portland. Residential Assistant positions are available at each camp and are advertised separately.

LOCHEND (PORTLAND)

For Year 8, our students travel to Lochend, a coastal property at Cape Bridgewater, near Portland. The Australian population clusters heavily along the coast and the next generation will do more to determine the future of our much-loved coastlines, than any generation present or past. Lochend has been developed as a simple camping base, from which students will enjoy surfing, caving and canoeing activities. On a three-day hike, the students contribute to an ongoing revegetation program.

9 Residential Assistant positions are available across the 3 camps (4 based at Lochend [Portland]) from Term 1, 2017. The period of employment is four school terms. This may be the first step into an outdoor, environmental or teaching career, or simply taken as a GAP year.

Assistants are required to enroll in a Traineeship program – Certificate III in Outdoor Recreation (Multiple Activities). Note: this program is not available for those who have successfully completed an equivalent or higher level qualification and is only open to applicants with rights to work and study in Australia.

The Residential Assistant’s role is one of responsibility and requires initiative, enthusiasm, and the ability to work as part of a dedicated team. The role also involves the maintenance and preparation of equipment, vehicle driving, ordering supplies, student supervision, and assisting with outdoor and environmental activities such as caving, surfing, hiking, canoeing and camping.

A driver’s licence, a First Aid certificate and VCE Outdoor Education are desirable and a Working with Children Check and Police Name Certificate are essential.

Please visit www.wesleycollege.net for a position description and to apply online. Or send CV and cover letter directly to joel.burch@wesleycollege.net

Applications close 4.00pm on 24 October 2016
